Hey y’all! It’s fall? Already?
It’s been A WHILE, hasn’t it? If you’re a returning reader, welcome back, and thank you for being here. I’ve migrated my newsletter to Substack to make it easier to connect with old friends and new faces.
Peak fall colors coming soon to the Upper Peninsula
What’s new? I’m now a couple of weeks into being a kindergarten mom—how is that possible? Every morning I walk her to school, give her a squeeze, and she’s off without hesitation. It’s incredible to see her confidently marching through the front doors, but it’s also a reminder of how fleeting time is.
Early in my career, before motherhood, I had plenty of free time to travel. I took road trips once a month or so, exploring nearby towns, searching for good food, and discovering unique buildings, a nod to my favorite years at the University of Georgia studying architectural history.
These days, life has slowed me down a bit, but in the best way. I’m a seeker; I love the hunt and magic of discovering something unknown to me. No time like the present to go back to what I love—exploring places old and new and sharing experiences.
What to Expect
Why this newsletter? I started travel blogging a lifetime ago as a creative outlet and long for a space beyond SEO-friendly content—a space for more creativity, connection, and fun. One of the things I love about the internet is finding community. I’ve moved around quite a bit as an adult and find immense joy in connecting with women both online and in real life.
What do moms and women need most of all? A break. This newsletter is a space to commiserate, get inspired, or simply enjoy a little mental break. While I write from an elder millennial mom’s perspective, the content won’t focus on kids or parenting because we all need a break.
Expect travel content, tips, and destination profiles, but also some small business love, interviews, and a bit of pop culture—what I’m watching, listening to, wearing, reading, and more.
Why Wavelength?
I read Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act last year, and it’s filled with creative insights. One particular passage struck me:
"There's a reason we are drawn to gazing at the ocean. It is said the ocean provides a closer reflection of who we are than any mirror."
I’m often drawn to the water, whether on vacation or in my daily life, living just a block from Lake Superior. The word "wavelength" reminds me of this passage and also of searching for and finding people who are on the same wavelength as you. That’s my goal here—to create a space where like-minded individuals can connect and find inspiration.
Thanks again for being here!
Until next time,
Em
